3DModelling for Kids.
A workshop for children age 9 to 15 yearwith the urge to create.
Introduction
Nowadays, almost everything can be 3D printed, and this technology will be a greater and greater part of our daily life. The 3D printing is a vital part of transforming novel ideas into physical objects.
When I work with this topic, it is my goal to form the bridge between the 3D-modelling and the actual objects.
This part is very important for the children to understand how digital objects can be transformed into real life products.
They will get an understanding of the three dimensions and the software used in the process.
Content
Each child will get the chance to make their own 3D-creation under class and individual guidance and inspiration.
Here, they will learn to use functions such as modelling, cutting, grouping, scaling, rotation, and the alignment of objects.
When making their creation, they will be working in special-designed 3D modelling software for children.
Where possible, we combine their creations with other materials and technologies, for example electronics or mechanics.
Furthermore, the children will participate in group work, where they in collaboration will be solving more complex tasks
Future perpective
This workshop is all about giving the children a chance to be the creator instead of the consumer within a field that is rapidly spreading to all industries.
It will open their minds to new ideas regarding this
technology, and for some of them, it might be so inspiring, that it will shape their future towards a more
entrepreneurial and technological direction. Furthermore, the children will obtain a spacial understanding, that can be directly transferred to other areas of their schoolwork, that being mathematics, design work or anatomy
Using a 3D program specifically designed for children, the possibilities are nearly endless, and converting designs to print is simple.
Regardless of the child’s idea or skill level, they can create their own object.
Once printed the child has a real object in their hand, and most importantly, experience a sense of succes and pride/”made it all by myself”.
The attached video demonstrates an example of a straightforward 3D modeling process that most children can easily learn to master.
